Bring on the sparkle!
Glitter makes everything better. If you don’t think so, then you haven’t had enough glitter in your life. Glitter goes back centuries, with ancient cultures making it from malachite, mica and crushed insects. Modern glitter was first produced in 1934 by machinist Henry Ruschmann, who created it by cutting up Mylar plastic into small pieces. His production changed up during WWII, as certain materials became unavailable, and scrap plastics were ground up to make glitter.
Today, there are over 20,000 different types of glitter made from a variety of materials in different sizes, shapes and colors. It’s primarily used in craft supplies, children’s toys and cosmetics. One of the biggest concerns of glitter has been on it’s impact on the environment, as it takes roughly 1,000 years to break down. Luckily, many brands have manufactured biodegradable glitter to help combat this issue.
Although putting glitter into tattoo ink is not currently possible, many artists are able to mimic the look of glitter in their tattoos. Take a peek at 40 of our favorite glitter tattoos from talented artists around the world, then let us know if you’d get a glitter tattoo in the comments section on social media. Now, bring on the glitter!
