Support for International Students
The Student Support & Advice Team are available to support International students before they arrive in Lincoln and throughout their studies.
The Student Support & Advice Team can be contacted by email at studentsupport@lincoln.ac.uk or by phone on +44 (0) 1522 837080.
The Student Support Centre is located on the ground floor of the Minerva Building and the opening hours are:
- Mon 8.30am – 5.00pm
- Tues 8.30am – 5.00pm
- Wed 9.30am – 5.00pm
- Thurs 8.30am – 5.00pm (7.00pm during term time)
- Fri 8.30am – 4.30pm
International Student Support Facebook Group
The International Student Support closed Facebook group, can be found by scanning the QR code below.
The group provides information about the university and student support relevant to international students.
ResLife
Our ResLife team support students living in University-owned and managed accommodation. Students can contact the ResLife Team directly every day between the hours of 18:00 and 00:00.

SIM Card
The University has been donated UK SIM cards. If you would like to receive one, please contact the Student Support & Advice Team who will arrange this for you. You can contact the team via email studentsupport@lincoln.ac.uk
Finding Accommodation in Lincoln
The UK government has introduced restrictions for student dependant visas for courses starting from January 2024. Students studying on a Postgraduate Research course or a PhD course will still be able to bring dependants with them whilst studying.

Opening a bank account in the UK
The documents you need to open a bank account may vary depending on which bank you decide to open an account with, however usually you will be expected to provide:
- your passport
- your visa (if relevant)
- proof of address in the UK and in your home country
- abank letterfrom the University of Lincoln confirming you are a student
To request a bank letter, please log-in to your One Uni account and select the ‘support’ tab and ‘student support letter requests’. On the form there is an option for a ‘bank letter’. Please include the name of the Bank you would like the letter for, and check that your term-time and home addresses are also correct on One Uni. Letter requests can only be processed after students have fully enrolled on their course.
There are a variety of banks in the UK to choose from, each offering a range of services. Before you apply for a bank account use the internet to check:
- which UK banks have branches in Lincoln
- which bank account will be most suitable for you
- which banks can produce statements in the format required by the Home Office – not all banks do this and you will need these if you plan to extend your visa. Here are a few banking terms and their definitions to help you:
- ID – Identity
- Cash Card – allows you to access your money 24 hours a day using a cashpoint
- Debit Card – allows you to withdraw cash from your account as well as use your card to pay in shops, restaurants and online
- Standing Order – an instruction by a bank’s customer to the bank, to pay an amount of money regularly to another account (for example, you may be asked to set up a standing order to pay your rent)
- Direct Debit – a payment arranged by the organisation which leaves the account with the express agreement of the account holder
- Automated Credit Transfer – a direct payment into your bank account, instead of by cash or cheque
- Overdraft – an agreed extension of credit when your account reaches zero
International Supermarkets in Lincoln
Rail Cards
Many international students travel by train in the UK and the cost of tickets can be cheaper with the purchase of a railcard. Information about railcards is available here. You can collect an application form from any main railway station or download the form from the website.
If you are over the age of 25 you may need the form to be signed and stamped by a member of staff at the University. Please come to the Student Support Centre with the form and your student ID card and our Student Support Officers will be happy to complete this for you.

Registering with a GP
During your time at University, you may need to visit the doctors, so it is important you register with a Health Centre here in Lincoln.
