25 Most Memorable Scarlet Witch Quotes (MCU & Comics) (2024)

Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, had one of the most epic character arcs in the entire MCU. She was an antagonist first, then did the right thing, became an Avenger, and gradually grew into one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Despite her bad English accent, Wanda still delivered some of the most iconic quotes ever in the movies, some being deep and meaningful, some funny, while some simply give you the right idea about who she is and what her motifs are. Here are the 25 most memorable Wanda Maximoff quotes from the MCU and Marvel Comics.

Wanda Maximoff Quotes From Avengers: Age Of Ultron

25 Most Memorable Scarlet Witch Quotes (MCU & Comics) (1)

“We wait for two days for Tony Stark to kill us.”

The first movie where Wanda Maximoff appears is in Avengers: Age of Ultron. At first, both are antagonists, agreeing to work with Ultron to destroy the Avengers for good. As it turns out, Wanda had an incredibly strong – even justifiable motive – for wanting to destroy Tony Stark and the rest of the Avengers.

Speaking to Ultron, we learn where the hatred began. Wanda tells him how a missile from Stark Industries destroyed their home when they were children, killing their parents in the process. Pietro and Wanda were left trapped in the rubbles, staring at the huge missile right in front of them, waiting for it to blow and kill them.

Wanda didn’t know that her powers of reality-warping and probability manipulation unknowingly made the bomb faulty, so it didn’t go off. They survived, but the pain and anger towards Tony Stark (and subsequently the Avengers) never left.

“Ultron doesn’t know the difference between saving the world and destroying it. Wonder where he gets that from.”

While it’s undeniable that Tony Stark and the Avengers have done wonderful things for the world, saving it from countless threats, it’s also undeniable that they nearly destroyed it numerous times, too. Who’s going to save the world from their actions?

While the quote refers to the entire Avengers team, Wanda mainly refers to Tony when saying it. Stark Industries had been selling horrible weapons to militaries worldwide, believing it would bring more good than harm. Then, those same weapons were used to obliterate entire countries and the people in them.

Yes, the Avengers saved the world a couple of times, but what was the price? Of course, the comparison with Ultron is completely unfair, but seeing that Tony Stark created him in the first place, it’s not hard seeing where Wanda is coming from.

“Do you know how it felt? It felt like that.”

Wanda Maximoff might be a part of the Avengers, and a beloved one, for that matter. However, both in the MCU, and the comics, Wanda has shown numerous times that she has a deep, violent, dark side. Some people close up and shut down when grieving. However, Wanda’s grief pushes her into anger, and her anger results in brutal, superpowered violence.

The first time we’ve seen what she’s capable of when angry is near the end of Age of Ultron. The battle resulted in Pietro’s death, and Ultron was responsible for it. So, Wanda uses her powers to rip his core processor out – the equivalent of a heart in a living being.

She delivers the epic line, meaning she felt like her heart was ripped out when Ultron killed Pietro.

She does the right thing afterward and helps the Avengers save millions of lives, but the entire sequence was enough for us to realize it’s best not to mess with Wanda’s heart.

“Sooner or later, every man shows himself.”

When Ultron and Wanda Maximoff first met, she couldn’t read his mind and understand his true intentions, as he wasn’t human but rather an artificial intelligence android. However, Wanda already knew that his motifs would eventually surface – one can only keep an act for so long, and everyone’s true face eventually swims out.

It’s one of those quotes that resonate with you because they can be translated to real-life outside the movie context. People tend to hide behind masks when things are going well and let others think they are somebody completely different.

However, when hardships ensue, that’s when one’s true face resurfaces – sooner or later, everyone shows themselves. You don’t need to read one’s mind to learn who they are. You just have to stay around them for long enough.

“It’s my job.”

Wanda started as an antagonist. One with justifiable motifs, but still, an antagonist. However, throughout the movie, she proved to be worthy of being called a hero, and the first time we saw Wanda show remorse for her actions and sacrifice for the greater good is right when she delivered this quote.

Wanda decided to stay behind to buy everybody else some time to escape, most importantly, the innocent people of Sokovia. She says, “It’s my job” to Hawkeye, officially becoming an Avenger and doing her part to save as many lives as she can, even if that means putting her own life at a huge risk.

It was the first time Wanda showed she was a hero. Luckily for the Avengers and us, it wasn’t the last time.

Wanda Maximoff Quotes From Captain America: Civil War

“You guys know I can move things with my mind, right?”

To put it mildly, Wanda’s character in the MCU is usually a bit grim and rarely in a good mood. However, she’s not a stranger to humor and sarcasm as well.

As Captain America talks about how they could have issues with their plan, as there might be locked doors and guys wearing bulletproof vests, Wanda simply reminds him that it’s not an issue when you have her powers on your side. I found it quite funny, and Elizabeth Olsen delivered the quote perfectly.

What’s a locked door going to do against Wanda, who can literally turn it into a ball of scrap metal before Cap can even utter “Avengers – assemble”?

“I can’t control their fear. Only my own.”

Wanda made a blunder which made the general public very afraid of her and her incredible powers. So, Tony stark put her inside the Avengers facility and made Vision keep her guarded there, so she doesn’t go out.

However, when Hawkeye comes there to ask her for help, she finally embraces her role as a hero and chooses not to be afraid of using her powers. When she says, “I can’t control their fear. Only my own,” Wanda is saying that people might be afraid of her, but she cannot allow herself to be afraid of herself.

It’s a powerful moment where she embraces that mistakes might happen, but it doesn’t mean you should stop using your gifts for the greater good. Immediately after that, Wanda outpowers Vision easily and gets out of the facility with Hawkeye. It’s the beginning of who Wanda is and what she can do.

“I used to think of myself one way. But after this, I am something else. And still me, I think. But that’s not what everyone else sees.”

Having incredible powers is amazing. However, not understanding them completely and how to control them can be a big problem for you and the people surrounding you. Wanda learned that the hard way after a public incident caused people to be afraid of her, despite Wanda having pure intentions.

She still feels like herself despite having powers she has little control over. Talking to Vision, Wanda reveals to him that she knows all those powers changed her, but not knowing what they truly are still bothers her.

It was one of the first times we see her and Vision bond, as he feels the same way as Wanda, not knowing what the Mind Stone is and how it works despite it being an integral part of himself.

Wanda Maximoff Quotes From Avengers: Infinity War

25 Most Memorable Scarlet Witch Quotes (MCU & Comics) (3)

“I just feel… you.”

Wanda and Vision shared a deep, emotional, passionate connection, which led to them trying to get away and live a quiet life together in Europe. However, the Mind Stone inside Vision’s head starts reacting to something, so Vision asks Wanda to use her powers and check out if she can feel what was going on, seeing that the Mind Stone was the source of her powers, too.

She responds, “I just feel… you.” It would be just a sweet, romantic quote, hadn’t Vision told her the same thing while Wanda used her powers to destroy the Mind Stone still inside his head near the end of the movie. What’s even more heartbreaking is that it was all in vain.

“That is too high a price.”

When the team realizes Thanos is closing in and nearly collected all the Infinity Stones, the idea of destroying the Mind Stone is floated. However, that would mean destroying Vision as well.

Captain America came out with a similar sentiment, saying nobody’s life will be sacrificed, even if it means saving many other lives because every life is worth the same. However, Wanda later had to trump her words and sacrifice Vision, even if she didn’t want to.

What’s even more heartbreaking is that it was all for nothing. She had to kill the love of her life, only to watch him get resurrected and then killed in front of her eyes again. No wonder her mental state was never the same after that.

“I can’t.”

Out of context, the quote doesn’t mean much. But, when you know when and why Wanda said it, it becomes one of her hardest moments and decisions in life.

As Thanos came closing in to take the Mind Stone from Vision, the only way to stop him was to have Wanda destroy the Stone while it’s still in Vision’s head. He urges Wanda to do it, and she breaks down, saying, “I can’t.”

But Vis talks her into doing it, saying she could never hurt him, and it has to be done to save half the universe.

Wanda eventually listens to him and destroys the Stone, killing Vis in the process – only to watch Thanos bring him back to life, kill him again, and get the Stone after all.

It was a devastating, defining trauma for Wanda and me as a fan.

Wanda Maximoff Quotes From Avengers: Endgame

25 Most Memorable Scarlet Witch Quotes (MCU & Comics) (4)

“You… took… everything from me.”

We’ve seen Wanda happy, in love, sad, and angry up to this point. However, we’ve never seen her THIS angry. The first time she gets her face-to-face with Thanos in Endgame, the timeline had been shifted, and he has no idea who she is – because Thanos from this timeline never met her.

Well, this line ought to be enough for him to know what’s coming next. Wanda’s eyes glow red in rage, putting all the grief, anger, and sorrow she felt into a desire for revenge.

“You will.”

This quote is a follow-up to the previous one. When Wanda tells Thanos he too everything from her, the Mad Titan is somewhat confused – he never saw her before, because in this timeline, the events that saw him murder Vision never happened. So, Thanos tells her he has no idea who she was, to which she answers: “You will.”

It was one of the most powerful moments in the movie, showing us what Wanda is capable of. She would single-handedly rip Thanos apart hadn’t he rained fire from his colossal spaceship, even if it meant destroying half of his army. I bet he would’ve remembered who she was had he survived to live another day.

“She knows… They both do.”

From Age of Ultron through Civil War, all the way to the final scenes of Endgame, Wanda and Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, share a special friendship that started with Clint being somewhat of her mentor. It developed into a friendship and a deep understanding of one another.

At Tony Stark’s funeral, Hawkeye grieves not only the loss of his great friend, Iron Man but his best friend, Natasha Romanoff. He says he just wishes Natasha could somehow know the Avengers have won, and her sacrifice wasn’t in vain. To which Wanda replies, “She knows… They both do.”

She’s referring to Nat and Vision – although they made sacrifices and died for the greater good, Wanda believes they know it eventually resulted in the team winning the biggest fight of their lives. It was not in vain.

I’m a grown man. I didn’t cry during this scene. I swear.

Wanda Maximoff Quotes From WandaVision

25 Most Memorable Scarlet Witch Quotes (MCU & Comics) (5)

“We’re an unusual couple…”

At the beginning of WandaVision, we see our favorite odd couple return in a big fashion – like characters from a 1950s-style sitcom. Breaking the “fourth wall,” Wanda delivers the hilarious quote in such a hilarious way, making me remember all those amazing old shows.

When you think about it, saying they’re an unusual couple is a huge understatement. A woman with reality-altering superpowers fell in love with an artificial-intelligence humanoid being created from vibranium, powered with a magical space stone of unfathomable powers.

What’s even more unusual than these two as a couple is how well it worked. They were the most unexpected romance that turned into by far the best, most emotional, and in the end, heartbreaking love stories in the MCU.

“You are my sadness and my hope. But mostly, you’re my love.”

I’m tearing up as I’m writing this quote, remembering the heartbreaking scene from the last episode of WandaVision. After Thanos brutally murdered Vision in Avengers: Infinity War, Wanda’s sorrow was immeasurable.

Nothing could bring him back – not even the “reverse snap” Tony Stark had done in Endgame, as Vision died before Thanos wiped out half the universe. Wanda created the alternate reality where Vis is still alive – WandaVision.

In the final episode, a new version of Vision stemming from Wanda’s reality-warping has no memory of his previous life with her. Vis asks what he is and where he came from, to which Wanda replies with the quote above.

She explains that her sadness, hope, and mostly love towards Vision created him and brought him back. Although she realizes it wasn’t the right thing to do in the end, the moment was incredibly powerful.

“I don’t need you to tell me who I am.”

Wanda Maximoff always knew her powers were incredibly strong, but their true source and nature were unknown to her – she didn’t really know how to use them effectively. That changed after Agatha Harkness told Wanda who she actually is – the Scarlet Witch.

Agatha tries to steal Wanda’s powers, but Maximoff starts controlling her powers unlike we’ve ever seen her being capable of before. She beats Harkness using the newfound knowledge about her powers, completely embracing the Scarlet Witch identity.

However, although she learns how to control her powers to a much greater extent, Wanda reiterates that she doesn’t need Agatha to tell her who she is. Wanda knows it herself, which she shows by using her powers for good instead of evil.

“We will say hello again.”

Wanda might’ve lost control of herself, her powers, and her emotions several times, but who wouldn’t? Her entire life, Wanda watches her closest people die – parents, brother, and then Vision. To make matters worse, she watched Vision die numerous times, getting back to life and then dying again.

In the final episode of the show, Vision is dying once again, and he feels horrible because of how many times he and Wanda had to say goodbye. Only this time, instead of losing it again, Wanda delivers this hopeful quote, knowing they’ll say hello again.

It was heartbreaking, emotional, but filled with hope. I hope Wanda will get what she deserves and that her love will return. She’s been through way too much.

“I have everything under control.”

Although Vision already started having his doubts about what was going on in Westview, realizing something isn’t right with the sitcom-esque life he and Wanda were living, WandaVision truly presented what kind of raw power Scarlet Witch has.

Her hexes are incredibly powerful. Her telekinetic abilities were shown numerous times, and her telepathic skills were highly potent. However, Westview is above and beyond everything she has ever done.

Wanda was controlling the entire town and its reality simultaneously, including the minds of all the people in there. Sure, it resulted in a glitch or two sometimes, but the fact that Wanda had done it in the first place – let alone control it for such a long time – is something even the Sorcerer Supreme probably couldn’t do.

“Is this yours?”

Now, we already saw Wanda become a hero and save the world. We’ve also seen her fall madly in love and express the most wonderful human emotions towards others. However, we’ve also seen what she’s capable of when grieving. When she has one of her… moments – it’s better not to try and mess with it.

So, when SWORD tries to destroy her alternate reality where Wanda and Vision are living their happily-ever-after instead of Vision being brutally murdered by Thanos, Scarlet Witch simply catches missile in mid-air with her power and deactivates it, and then tosses it right in front of them, asking “Is this yours?”.

You can’t get a much clearer message saying “step away, or I’ll mess you up,” apart from literally saying “step away, or I’ll mess you up.” She can be kind and loving, but Scarlet Witch is not somebody you want to mess with.

Wanda Maximoff Quotes From Marvel Comics

25 Most Memorable Scarlet Witch Quotes (MCU & Comics) (6)

“While I live – And until I die – I am an Avenger!”

Like her MCU counterpart, Wanda Maximoff had a settling-in period, where she needed to embrace her hero side and choose to fight for the good side instead of letting the darkness take over her.

She goes back and forth between being a hero, then losing control and doing something horrible, and then being a hero again. However, in Avengers Vol. 1 #84, Wanda finally settles it once and for all – she might make mistakes, but for the better or worse – she is an Avenger, and she will do her best to be a hero for the rest of her life.

“Don’t look back – the past is exactly where it belongs.”

Scarlet Witch usually has the most powerful quotes on the battlefield. However, she can share a deep thought every once in a while that doesn’t come in battle but in life.

This particular quote came in Scarlet Witch Vol. 2 #13, while Wanda is reminiscing about what happened in the past. You shouldn’t look back and think could’ve, would’ve, should’ve been – the past is the past, and it should remain there. All you have to do is keep moving forward because that’s where you should be heading.

“No more mutants.”

This has probably been one of the most recognizable quotes Wanda has ever said. It came from House of M Vol. 1 #17. In this event, Scarlet Witch used her reality-warping abilities to create a completely new world where Magneto (who was believed to be Wanda and Pietro’s biological father) was the ruler.

Wanda completely changed the world, but her true power was shown later. Uttering only these three words was enough for Scarlet Witch to make 90% of the mutants on the planet lose their powers.

She reversed her actions later when she “shut down” House of M and switched back the reality, but not without major, inescapable consequences to the original world.

“Love is for souls, not bodies.”

Wanda’s simple yet deep quote came in Giant-Size Avengers Vol. 1 #4. Wanda spoke about how you don’t have to be physical with someone to express your love and affection towards them.

As she beautifully put it, love is something you feel in your soul, not your body. That’s what passion is for, not love.

“But strength is no use against me hex power.”

This quote perfectly sums up who Scarlet Witch is and how powerful she is. It came from Hulk Vol. 1 #7. Wanda speaks of Bruce Banner, the Hulk, understanding that the angrier Hulk is, the stronger he gets.

But, Wanda also understands that it has no effect on her whatsoever. No matter how strong he is, the Hulk is no match to her unfathomable reality-warping abilities.
