Adding a custom livery to Assetto Corsa Competizione is a great way to customise your races. You can create your own team and even create your own custom ACC livery.

However, if you aren’t a natural designer or a dab hand with Photoshop, it can be easier to download a custom livery that someone else has created and shared. After all, creating a completely custom livery can take a fair bit of time.

In this Assetto Corsa Competizione livery guide, I’ll show you the best places to find ACC liveries that others have created and how to download and use those in a few quick steps.

Should you download an ACC livery or create your own?

There are three real options for creating liveries for Assetto Corsa Competizione.

1. Use the in-game ACC livery editor
2. Create your own custom livery using Photoshop
3. Download a livery that someone has designed and shared

ACC in-built livery editor

ACC does include its own livery editor, which you can find in the showroom or car selection screen. This editor is relatively basic and lets you choose from five or so preset designs and customise both the colour and paint finish of each design.

This method is the easiest route to creating a unique livery; however, the customisation options are limited. You can’t add sponsor logos or complex designs and are limited to how the livery looks. The perk of using this method is that when racing online, all other players will be able to see your design, and this is something that can’t happen with a completely custom livery.

Creating a custom livery

If you want more control over your car’s appearance when on track in ACC, you can create a custom livery for any car. This process involves you editing a few of the core ACC files for your livery to be visible, as well as creating your own design in an editing software such as Photoshop or Gimp.

This process will take a lot longer than either using the in-game editor or downloading someone else’s livery, as figuring out the car’s wireframe and where each part of your design should go is tricky at first.

Downloading a livery

By far, the quickest option and often the easiest way to get a stunning livery on your car is to download a livery that another community member has created. When using their design, it is important to remember to always credit the livery creator.

When you download a custom ACC livery, you will need to edit a couple of files in your Assetto Corsa Competizione documents folder for the livery to appear. In this guide, I’ll show you exactly what to change and how to change it.

Where to find custom ACC liveries to download

There are a few places where you can download free custom ACC liveries. Most websites that upload ACC liveries allow users to download and use them for free, as long as they don’t re-upload or use them outside of the terms of use.

Some of the best resources for finding ACC liveries include;

• Overtake (Formerly Race Department)
• Pitskill.io
• Awesome Simracing

There are a host of individual livery designers that offer ACC livery collections, with some being free and others paid. These resources often have fewer designs, although the quality can be higher in some cases. These ACC livery designers include:

• Whalenap Designs
• Felix Dicit
• Boonatix

How to install a downloaded ACC livery

One you have found the perfect livery and have the files downloaded, there are still a few steps to install it and get it up and running in ACC. All custom livery downloads should come with five important files, and these will need to be added to your ACC documents folder in the right place for the livery to appear in game.

You should navigate to the folder named “Customs” in your ACC documents folder. The exact path to that folder is below.

C: > Users > [Your username] > Documents > Assetto Corsa Competizione > Customs

In this “Customs” folder, you will see two additional folders, one called “Cars” and the other called “Liveries”. If the file you downloaded is organised nicely, the creator should have created these two folders for you.

To install your downloaded ACC livery, simply copy the “Cars” and “Liveries” folders from the downloaded file into your ACC customs folder. With this done, you should be able to start Assetto Corsa Competizione and be able to select the custom livery from the car selection menu, just like you would with any of the pre-installed liveries in the game.

What to do if the files aren’t organised or the livery doesn’t work in game

If the livery creator hasn’t organised things for you, you must do a little bit more work. You should see five files in the download folder. There should be the following files in any custom ACC livery download;

• decals.json
• decals.png
• sponsors.json
• sponsors.png
• Another .json file, often with numbers in the file name

The first four files, both decals and sponsor files, should be copied into the liveries folder and put into a new folder that matches the “customSkinName” within the numbered .json file. You can create the folder yourself within the Liveries folder.

For example, opening my .json file for our Sim Racing Setups livery, you can see that the “customSkinName” is set to “SRS Livery Ferrari 296 GT3.” In this case, the folder within the Liveries folder should be named exactly the same. This is so ACC can link the file to the folder containing the custom livery. In this example, the file path would look like this;

C: > Users > [Your username] > Documents > Assetto Corsa Competizione > Customs > Liveries > SRS Livery Ferrari 296 GT3 > [Your new .json file]

With these additional steps complete, you should now be able to open ACC and see your downloaded livery available to use.

Overtake/RaceDepartment ACC liveries

The first place that many sim racers go for any mods, skins or liveries is RaceDepartment. This is an old website that was recently purchased by Overtake and has since been rebranded.

The downloads section of Overtake is essentially the same as the old RaceDepartment. It allows community members to upload and share their mods and creations for other sim racers to download.

There is a sizable category for custom Assetto Corsa Competizione liveries, with over 3000 individual liveries available.

While all of the liveries are free to download, many have usage restrictions, which are stated on each file’s download page. Because all of the content is community uploads, the quality can vary from outstandingly good to mediocre and poor. There is a rating system, so you can filter out some of the least popular liveries when searching.

You will need to set up a free account for Overtake in order to download files, but once you have an account, there are no limitations on what you can download.

Pitskill.io

Pitskill.io is a platform that isn’t too dissimilar to how iRacing or LowFuelMotorsport works. It is a competitive sim racing platform where you can take part in scheduled online events and compete against other sim racers in competitive scenarios.

Alongside this organised competitive racing, Pitskill.io also has a segment of its website dedicated to custom ACC liveries. This area allows users to upload their own custom ACC car designs and skins for others to rate and download.

This platform is slightly more curated than Overtake, and you can quickly find some very good created liveries for every car in Assetto Corsa Competizione.

Pitskill.io also has a software called PitSync, that lets you sync your downloaded liveries with other sim racers, allowing them to see your custom livery while competing online. It works in a similar way to how TradingPaints lets you see custom liveries in iRacing.

This feature is normally not supported, and custom liveries are disabled during regular online races in Assetto Corsa Competizione. However, PitSync lets you manage your designs and creations, share your own liveries, and sync the custom liveries for everyone in your league or online race.

Awesome Simracing

Awesome Simracing is a community-driven website for all things Assetto Corsa Competizione. The website is in an Alpha stage and, therefore, not completed. However, even in its current stage, a range of custom ACC liveries is available to download.

Awesome Simracing currently has one of the largest collections of custom ACC skins and liveries, with well over 7,000 individual liveries that you can download. All of the liveries can be accessed and downloaded for free.

The major downside to finding custom designs and liveries on Awesome Simracing is that there is currently no search or filter funtionality. You can look for liveries for each individual car in Assetto Corsa Competizione. However, you can’t sort by most popular or by any keywords and this can elongate the process of finding a suitable livery.

Much like Pitskill, Awesome Simracing has its own livery synchronisation tool that lets you and your league sync custom liveries. This tool works similarly and is a great way to view custom liveries during online races.
